BACKSTORY
Wara Ganghan is the name of my main character. He is the first born child to a West African father and a Korean mother. His name roughly translates to “Tiger Strong” and that name is something he tries to embody in all of his pursuits. As a kid he didn’t necessarily pick fights…but it’s fair to say that his mouth got him into deep enough trouble. That he never ran from. Maybe he should have as these fights never went into his favour. But no Wara’s annoying persistence in his crusade over morality continued. Accordingly anything he saw that didn’t sit right with his morals, he was willing to fight over it. His parents worried about him on the streets of London, and after trying everything the could to reach him to not be so prideful…they flipped his name on him. In his childish mind a tiger to him represented ferocity, dominance and relentlessness. But no. Instead they introduce the idea that a tiger earns its stripes. A mentality of hardwork and poise is what they tried to instill in their child. 11 now, its a teacher that introduces the idea of a martial art of sort for the boy. After a conversation with the teacher, he goes after school to the nearest gym. And for the first time, felt like he had no place in this. “How can these people hit each other for no reason?” “This is dumb I don’t even like fighting.” “They just hit each other so hard, why are they laughing together?” The whole gym fell silent as two members got ready for a sparring match. A tall young man in fiery red-orange shorts controlled the gym with just his demeanor. And the sound he made when his gold gloves hit his opponent. He was quick and fast as he moved with the grace and ferocity of a big cat against his prey. Leaving the ring with not a scratch, he was actually more brushed by the embrace of the gym that crowed him like he was a hero. All this praise and admiration. And not a single word uttered. Wara had to know how he did it. The child splits the crowd with one statement, “I bet I could be better than you!” Where Wara comes from, those are fighting words. But for the first time in Wara’s life his challenge was met with a kind face. “I bet you can…” Four words that changed this young boys. Every day, Wara Ganghan came and watched after eventually joining to learn. But from day, he was a boxer. Or at least that’s what he told everyone. Because having absolute control of oneself and using it as a vessel of spectacle. To control a room with awe instead of rath. That’s what was cool now.
The current situation though is very dire, it’s been months now and Wara has trained his hardest. Coming everyday, he has worked tirelessly. Growing from the initial hazing from the patrons of the boxing gym; feeling unable and ameuter. To being a well integrated part of the gym. People in this gym see him as a little brother type, and he’s learned so much in this time. He’s shown himself to be a destructive force in the ring and no-one (not even himself) knew he can do. It’s evident that his devastating power and resilience in the ring are what is going to allow him to go far.
But now it's time to test that. His first title fight. IF he win’s not only would he be crowned Super Middleweight, but a lot will be confirmed. He will have proven his hard work in trail; his growth from a tough development as a child; and he will be finally able to answer the ultimate question for himself. Is the tiger within him strong? Is the tiger within him worth it? Has he put enough work in? Has he earnt his stripes?
